Jeon Cello Studio
Private cello lessons in the Indianapolis area, and online
I founded Jeon Cello Studio in 2023 and teach students from complete beginner through advanced levels — including those preparing conservatory and university auditions.
Lessons take place in your own home, which spares families the weekly drive, or online for students further afield.
How I teach
Every student gets an individual curriculum. Technical development is built alongside music theory and aural skills rather than bolted on afterwards, so a student understands what they are playing and not only how to play it. I am Kodály certified, and my training in Korea, Germany and the United States means I draw on several teaching traditions rather than one.
Parents are welcome — and with younger students, encouraged — to sit in on lessons, and I will always be clear about what to practise during the week. For students preparing auditions, I also work on programme building, performance nerves and the practical side of applying.
Performing, not just practising
The studio produces an annual recital with professional accompaniment before an audience of forty or more. Playing for real listeners, properly accompanied, is what turns a student who practises into a musician who performs — it builds stage presence and confidence in a way that a weekly lesson alone cannot.
Alongside the studio I coach cello sectionals for the middle and high school programmes at Zionsville Community Schools, where students have earned gold medals in the orchestra category at the 2024 and 2025 ISSMA competitions.
Starting lessons
The first step is a short conversation — about the student, their experience so far, and what they hope to get from playing. Write to me with your child's age and how long they have been playing, and I will reply with current availability and rates.
